Although this story may not move the meter, the subject of sexual assault and how one deals with it in comparison to other people is intriguing to me.
Apparently rapper Danny Brown received oral sex from a female fan while performing in concert. He did not ask for the fan to come on stage. While he was receiving oral sex, he apparently was undeterred and continued to spit his verses like a true profession and even joked with artist Kendrick Lamar stating he did not miss a bar. His tour mate Kitty Pryde did not see it as a joke and was the only one who saw it as a problem.
I’ve seen this story in about 3 places now. It’s pretty clearly sexual assault. How Danny Brown feels about it afterwards doesn’t really change that, though I don’t wish him any suffering. But initiating sex without consent is assault. Girl’s asleep, boy didn’t see you diving for his pants, person is drunk – no consent == assault.
I’ve seen interviews where Danny Brown said he wouldn’t mind it happening again, so I think bases are covered as far as consent, but I can see the cause for concern if consent wasn’t given, as well as the gray area. My take is that Brown is a wild dude, and he wasn’t saying he felt assailed afterward; I don’t feel there’s any harm here. If he DID say something, while I would feel it was valid for him to have an issue with it, *most of the public would marginalize it due to him being a male, but it is something that should be scrutinized equally.
* = For the record, I’m not saying that on some “Men’s Rights Advocate” bullshit; I do try to carry myself as a feminist/equalist, and I’m simply speaking from my opinion on the perception the media would take, which I am not justifying in any way, shape, or form.
