“The University Of Wisconsin-Superior has announced that, despite criticism, the school intends to continue its support for the “Un-Fair” campaign, a local advertising effort to raise awareness of and fight misconceptions about racism.”

Conservative blogs have been criticizing what they call “racially charged”advertisements that show Caucasian people with statements like “is white skin really a fair skin?” written on their faces.

Conservatives always yell that something is “racially charged” or “reverse racism” when someone tries to combat racism.   They love to admit that White Privilege doesn’t exist to protect it or they even may be as stupid to believe there is no such thing.

I totally love this campaign. I wish they’d run it here in the Twin Cities. I’m really glad to hear UW-Superior is sticking with it because UM-Duluth caved and backed out. (Duluth, MN and Superior, WI, aka the “Twin Ports,” are adjacent.)

The irony of it all is that part of the difficulty in talking about race is that we don’t have common language or common understanding of some concepts like privilege. This campaign aims directly at that problem.

I’m ambivalent about the participation of Tim Wise.
