“They Didn’t Like My Dreads”: 7 Year Old Sobs After Hair Gets Her Removed From School
Seven year old Tiana is a straight “A” student, but what got her in trouble with her school wasn’t her grades. What caused the 7 year oldtiana to cry uncontrollably while being interviewed by a reporter from FOX23 in Oklahoma was being forced to leave her school because of her dreads.
Tiana’s father, Terrance Parke, said the school harassed him over his daughter’s dreads so much that he was forced to pull her out of school. Parker said school officials at Tulsa, Oklahoma’s Deborah Brown Community School told him that his daughter’s dreads didn’t look presentable.
“She’s always presentable. I take pride in my kids looking nice,” said Parker.
Deborah Brown Community School is a charter school and has different rules than public schools. An official at the school, Millard Jones, who did not agree to speak on camera, said Tiana’s father was aware of the rules.
Little Tiana broke down in tears while telling a reporter why she couldn’t remain at her school.
“They didn’t like my dreads,” sobbed Tiana.September 5, 2013 at 8:46 am #96181
Stand Your Ground? 46-Year-Old Shοοts 7-Year-Old In the Face
A 46-year-old Dallas, TX man, Brian Cloninger, was arrested Tuesday (September 3) night after a shοοting that left a 7-year-old boy in critical condition.
The child, who was identified by family members as Donald Maiden Jr., suffered a gυn shοt wound to the face at the La Bella Palms apartment complex in Northeast Dallas. The child was taken to the Children’s Medical Center in Dallas and Dallas CBS-affiliate 11 News has reported that Maiden is out of surgery in critical but stable condition.

Horror is not my genre, but I might tune in to watch Angela Bassett.
Angela Bassett Talks ‘American Horror Story: Coven’
September 4, 2013 by EURpublisher02
American Horror Story” is bringing out the big guns for its witch-themed third season.
Oscar-nominated actress Angela Bassett joins Oscar winner Kathy Bates and returning Oscar winner Jessica Lange for “American Horror Story: Coven,” which is set in New Orleans and will be more fun than the original 2011 season and last year’s “American Horror Story: Asylum.”
“This year is a drama but there is a lot of humor, and we are embracing a kind of velocity and fun with the series,” said executive producer Tim Minear in August. “It’s not the same as it was the past two years, but I think it can be more fun for the audience.”
Bassett, who has put her cinematic stamp on such real people as Tina Turner, Betty Shabazz and Katherine Jackson, will portray in “Coven” a lesser-known woman in history – unless you’re steeped in the history of New Orleans.
“I play Marie Laveau. And it’s been interesting being in New Orleans, because there’s such a regard and respect for who she was,” Bassett told TV critics in August. “There was a woman in the 1800s, she lived to about 80 years old who was a very influential person in the city. So my character is sort of based loosely on her. And I’m looking forward to it.”
So who is Marie Laveau? She was a Creole Voodoo priestess who had a huge following among both blacks and whites during her heyday. Bassett says Laveau diehards in New Orleans who heard she was in town and set to play the voodoo legend have been bombarding her with unsolicited advice and background info.

Beneath the Spin: The Reason why Black People Hate Tavis & Cornel
September 3, 2013 by EurPublisher
Let’s Set the Record Straight – Black People Don’t Hate Tavis Smiley and Cornel West Simply Because They’re Critical of Obama.
Why is it that most Tavis Smiley and Cornel West supporters always jump to the unwarranted conclusion that the only reason that Black people dislike Smiley and West is because they’re criticizing President Obama?
That’s an extremely presumptuous point of view, and it’s not true. The majority of Black people aren’t hostile toward Tavis and West BECAUSE they criticize Obama, but for the WAY they criticize Obama.
The reason we become angry every time they criticize Obama is because Tavis and West are arrogant, petty, self-serving, condescending, and disrespectful, and those flawed character traits come to the forefront whenever the subject of President Obama comes up. In addition, they’re criticisms never come coupled with constructive solutions, so it’s obvious to the Black community that they’re not actually interested in the issues; they’re merely USING the issues as a pretext to attack the man – and Cornel’s repeated racial slanders clearly validates that perception.
Black people clearly understand that ALL politicians’ feet should be kept to the fire, and that includes Obama’s. I’ve written several articles criticizing President Obama, and I’ve also written articles explaining WHY it’s important to hold his feet to the fire (http://wattree.blogspot.com/2011/01/obama-supporters-vs-cheerleaders.html), but when I criticize Obama I make sure that my criticisms are respectful, issue-specific, constructive, I ALWAYS come armed with solutions – and I send them to him
Thus, Black people are way out in front of Tavis and West on MOST issues, so the repeated suggestion by Tavis and West that Black people are blindly working on “Obama’s plantation” is a slap in the face of the Black community. They’re saying the very same thing that White racists are saying – that Black people are just a bunch of stupid zombies – “Dem niggas ain’t got sense like we do, boss.”
That attitude is not lost on the Black community for a minute. They don’t like it at all, and as a direct result, they don’t like them at all. The Black community looks upon them in the very same way as they do any other slanderous bigot.September 5, 2013 at 8:53 am #96185
California yoga studio faces criticism over ‘ghetto’ themed class
Yogis donned do-rags and gang signs during a recent ‘Ghetto Fabulous’ yoga class, prompting disdain from critics who accused the studio of racism. Founder Adrienne Hengels changed the name of the class to ‘Hip Hop Yoga.’
Talk about heated yoga.
A Southern California studio is under fire after encouraging members to wear do-rags and roll their pant legs up for a “ghetto” themed yoga class.
“Please come dressed in your favorite ghetto fabulous outfit, snap-back caps, corn rows, heavy lip liner or whatever you dream up,” instructs an ad for the class at Power of Your Om Yoga in Santa Barbara.
It’s stamped with the acronym, “N.W.A,” to mean “Namaste with Attitude,” and includes a link to a WikiHow page titled “How to Be Ghetto Fabulous.”September 5, 2013 at 8:55 am #96186
On the Edge of Poverty, at the Center of a Debate on Food Stamps
By SHERYL GAY STOLBERG
Published: September 4, 2013
As a self-described “true Southern man” — and reluctant recipient of food stamps — Dustin Rigsby, a struggling mechanic, hunts deer, doves and squirrels to help feed his family. He shops for grocery bargains, cooks budget-stretching stews and limits himself to one meal a day
Tarnisha Adams, who left her job skinning hogs at a slaughterhouse when she became ill with cancer, gets $352 a month in food stamps for herself and three college-age sons. She buys discount meat and canned vegetables, cheaper than fresh. Like Mr. Rigsby, she eats once a day — “if I eat,” she said.
When Congress officially returns to Washington next week, the diets of families like the Rigsbys and the Adamses will be caught up in a debate over deficit reduction. Republicans, alarmed by a rise in food stamp enrollment, are pushing to revamp and scale down the program. Democrats are resisting the cuts.
No matter what Congress decides, benefits will be reduced in November, when a provision in the 2009 stimulus bill expires.
Yet as lawmakers cast the fight in terms of spending, nonpartisan budget analysts and hunger relief advocates warn of a spike in “food insecurity” among Americans who, as Mr. Rigsby said recently, “look like we are fine,” but live on the edge of poverty, skipping meals and rationing food.
Surrounded by corn and soybean farms — including one owned by the local Republican congressman, Representative Stephen Fincher — Dyersburg, about 75 miles north of Memphis, provides an eye-opening view into Washington’s food stamp debate. Mr. Fincher, who was elected in 2010 on a Tea Party wave and collected nearly $3.5 million in farm subsidies from the government from 1999 to 2012, recently voted for a farm bill that omitted food stamps.
The role of citizens, of Christianity, of humanity, is to take care of each other, not for Washington to steal from those in the country and give to others in the country,” Mr. Fincher, whose office did not respond to interview requests, said after his vote in May. In response to a Democrat who invoked the Bible during the food stamp debate in Congress, Mr. Fincher cited his own biblical phrase. “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat,” he said.
On Wednesday, the Department of Agriculture released a 2012 survey showing that nearly 49 million Americans were living in “food insecure” households — meaning, in the bureaucratic language of the agency, that some family members lacked “consistent access throughout the year to adequate food.” In short, many Americans went hungry. The agency found the figures essentially unchanged since the economic downturn began in 2008, but substantially higher than during the previous decade.
Experts say the problem is particularly acute in rural regions like Dyersburg, a city of 17,000 on the banks of the Forked Deer River in West Tennessee. More than half the counties with the highest concentration of food insecurity are rural, according to an analysis by Feeding America, the nation’s largest network of food banks. In Dyer County, it found, 19.4 percent of residents were “food insecure” in 2011, compared with 16.4 percent nationwide.September 5, 2013 at 8:59 am #96187

Tag-Teaming Obamacare Obstruction
By Ed Kilgore
As the October 1 date that begins the Affordable Care Act’s open enrollment period for health care exchanges approaches, the coordinated federal-state nature of GOP efforts to obstruct implementation of the legislation grows clearer. Salon’s Brian Beutler reports that the House Republican challenges to groups receiving “navigator” grants to promote enrollment are synching up with the states with levels of uninsured and state-level Republican political power:
Last week, as several other outlets reported, Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce committee sent letters to state agencies and nonprofit groups that received Obamacare “navigator” grants — organizations that will help educate people about the law and facilitate their enrollment — seeking an incredibly broad and difficult-to-compile range of information.
The effort’s pretty clearly intended to bog down the navigators ahead of enrollment, which could easily reduce the number of people who end up insured under the law. Republicans claim that the inquiry is intended to protect beneficiaries’ private information.
But if the goal were to establish best practices for the navigators, they have a strange way of going about it. All of the navigator grant recipients are based in states with federally facilitated exchanges and states partnering with the feds to stand up their marketplaces. Salon’s analysis reveals that among these states, Republicans directed their inquiries to organizations in states with the largest uninsured populations….
These organizations are based in the following states, in alphabetical order: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas.September 5, 2013 at 9:02 am #96188

Entire Staff Quits On Boss In Letter Posted To Door, Online
Posted: Sep 04, 2013 7:11 AM CDT Updated: Sep 04, 2013 7:12 AM CDT
Have you ever worked for a boss so horrible that you just wanted to walk out and give them a piece of your mind? While many of us have thought about it, few have actually done it.
This is the resignation letter from three workers at a Journey clothing store in upstate New York.
They posted it on the door of the store so their former manager couldn’t miss it. Then, they posted it on Reddit.
It reads: “Dear Jamie, since you decided to say ‘cancer is not an excuse’ and think it’s OK to swear at your employees like you do all the time, we quit.”
It was signed by the entire staff, who added that they wished their boss good luck getting through the back to school holiday – without any workers.
A spokesperson for Journey says the incident is under investigation.
