My interest in comics came back to me after watching Comic Book Men on AMC and now Free Comic Book Day that was on May 4th. I haven’t bought a comic book in over a decade. When I did, I’d always start in the middle of a storyline that I never got and lost interest. Now that Marvel launched Marvel Now and DC launched The New 52, I want to get back into comics and start from the beginning.
I like the Avengers, X-Men, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Batman, Superman to name a few. I went to a comic book store today and saw so many new titles and I didn’t know where to start. With regards to Marvel Now, I see that Uncanny Avengers is an offshoot from Avengers Vs X-Men, yes? That sounds interesting. Should I begin with Avengers Vs X-Men and then move on to Uncanny Avengers?
80% of Marvel Now is an offshoot of the Avengers VS X-Men event. I would say start there with all of the tie-ins and jump straight into: Uncanny Avengers, A+X, All New X-Men, Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Uncanny X-Men and Secret Avengers. There are some other great titles, but these are linked directly the the event. I would also recommend: Fantastic 4, FF, Indestructible Hulk, Avengers Arena, and Young Avengers because they are pretty much the best thing Marvel is putting out right now. It’s a pretty hefty backlog but if you don’t plan to buy new issues every Wednesday than you should be fine.
I have Uncanny Avengers volume 1 coming in the mail tomorrow. Picked up Wolverine #1, A+X #1, and Wolverine and the X-Men #24 today, partly because the story and characters and partly because the covers are pretty sweet. I’ll probably frame them as art later.
