While this post is mildly interesting for the glimpse it provides into the logistics of transporting the president around the world, it basically comes off as a smear piece against the president for supposedly spending too much money on foreign trips. And this one’s not even a vacation, for Chrissake. Like the dude at the end of the report said, “this is what you need to support the American presidency, regardless of who the president is.” It’s expensive, and yes, folks…it’s on the taxpayer’s dime.
Xenophobes in the corporate media would have you believe that it’s better for the nation if we drones for diplomats, and that that’s where the budget for this trip should be going. But since we’re responsible (either directly or indirectly) for a lot of the mess in sub-Saharan Africa, we have to at least pretend that we’re responsibly tidying up in the area, and part of that means showing face with dignitaries in the region. This trip may be a dog-and-pony show, but that doesn’t make it any less necessary if we want to keep bombing the shit out of people without them hating on us TOO badly.
