If you are male, you should watch this TED Talk video.
Then signal boost the ish out of it, and watch it again and again and start to help get this paradigm shift happening yesterday.
Violence & Silence.
Guys you need to step up.May 23, 2013 at 12:05 pm #88905
This was awesome. I especially like the concept that we don’t need sensitivity training, but leadership training, and that bystanders who don’t speak out are bad leaders. We’re a nation of followers, and men in power have a duty and a responsibility to speak out and break the status quo. Thank you for sharing! If you’re coming to Netroots Nation next month, you’re gonna get the biggest bear hug on the planet from yourse truly <3May 24, 2013 at 2:10 am #88944

awwwss I can’t really travel right now, or I’d consider it – I looked at the site and was WOW wish I could be there. Maybe next year???? Is it a yearly thing? I’m sort of new to all this stuff lol
I really do love what that guy is saying. Especially about men in positions of power – really at all levels of society – to step up and be leaders. I also like the concept of changing societal norms. That whole loss of status if you do X Y and Z thing. This guy is spot on with that.
I remember Elon and Aaron and the crew on one of the Nerd Hard podcasts talking about how they speak up often and always when they are in gaming groups on headsets etc and the misogyny starts flying. It warmed my heart. Its hard to be a gamer and be a girl. It was awesome to hear how they stepped up and shut that ish down.
These are the times when I wish I could Tweet or Facebook. I would be tossing that vid everydamnwhere lol. But I trust guys like you and others with social media to help out. Thank Yew! <3May 24, 2013 at 3:04 pm #88998
I’m surprised they were allowed to out the young men. I thought minors were protected against being named by media outlets.May 24, 2013 at 6:53 pm #89015
@awke-black-woman: Netroots Nation is a yearly conference, and this year it just so happens to be about a mile from my apartment. I’m super-duper stoked. I’ll be sure to give you a full report on the shenanigans at ground zero.
As far as outing the boys involved in this case, I’m not really sure what the deal is. I know there didn’t seem to be an issue with outing the Stebuenville boys, so maybe there is no legal protection. It could just be one of those media honor system things.
