In WW2 alot of officer made high rank at relatively young ages. The character that Terrence Howard was based on was 32 when he led the 332nd Squadron. There is much in your review I disagree with but I just wanted to point that one out. I think people that criticize the movie simply from the style or dialogue miss the bigger point of the story. It wasnt that the 332nd was a spectacular unit. It was that the overall of perception of black soldiers was that they were inadequate fighters. They had to work twice as hard as their white counterparts just to prove their equality as fighters. To harp on dialogue, or music, or the love story subplot you do a disservice to acts the Tuskegee Airmen did accomplish. On a sidenote anyone expecting a history lesson from a movie is a jack-a**.What I hope is people will be interested enough to go find out on their own the history of the Tuskegee Airmen...

This is the interview and the quote starts 78:43. What he is talking about is the feeling that black people have towards dark skin black people. He is raising the issue that dark skin people are not see as beautiful and dark skin is a disadvantage. He isnt saying dark skin people are less than but this issue is in our community.

I see the book ban as the inability of officials to accept what is true about America's role as a major player in exploiting countries and their indigenous people. Only the sincerely stupid would actually believe that this ban is going to prevent people from telling the truth about America's role in the world's story. I find it interesting that within their color blind hysteria they think that this is the way to make things different than what is true.

Things have changed, but we still have a long way to go. We're definitely not a "post-racial society" by any means. I hope the movement is forward, and not backwards, but that will depend in large part on who votes, and who sits home. For my part, I will NEVER sit home. I'll vote if I have to crawl to get to the polls, because it matters. It really, truly matters. Thanks for the article.

Am I the only one that thought that the republicans having a debate in South Carolina on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day was an EPIC failure on behalf of the party? I am pretty sure the clips above will be played 30 years from now to judge the republican party's progress on civil rights.
