What is a word worth? According to Publishers Weekly, NewSouth Books’ upcoming edition of Mark Twain’s seminal novel Adventures of Huckleberry Finn will remove all instances of the “n” word—I’ll give you a hint, it’s notnonesuch—present in the text and replace it with slave. The new book will also remove usage of the word Injun. The effort is spearheaded by Twain expert Alan Gribben, who says his PC-ified version is not an attempt to neuter the classic but rather to update it. “Race matters in these books,” Gribben toldPW. “It’s a matter of how you express that in the 21st century.”

So in attempt to deal with a story of the tumultuous racial past of our country the best thing to do is censor the word “Nigger” from the book? In order to have the book be more palatable we have to erase the historical context of the usage and the word? Are you kidding?

I’m not sure what I’m feeling right now.

Being a huge King of Pop fan I’m sort of ecstatic simply to hear some MJ that I haven’t heard before. On the other hand I think Curtis Jackson is an idiot. I don’t care how many videos he makes with small strange looking white children. The combination of the 2 makes my head hurt a little. This isn’t like when Michael teamed up with Biggie to create awesome. I remember being so shocked and amused that MJ said shit. But this–feels odd. What do you think?

After watching the interview last night on Larry King Live with Mel Gibson’s former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, I’m in awe of her bravery and sincerity.  I now understand why Mel Gibson and his lawyers did not want to allow Oksana to speak about this in front of a camera.  She is believable.  When asked why she wanted to speak out publicly Oksana says she wanted stand up not only for herself but for all of the other victims of domestic violence who don’t have the privilege of speaking out.  They are forced into silence.

Or was it before this?  Anywho, I’m pretty sure when you show up in someone’s bedroom to lipsynch in front of a webcam you can no longer proclaim you thugnificence.  This video is pretty hilarious though.  Keenan Cahill is the latest youtube sensation and this video was actually part of a recent episode of Chelsea Lately.  So enjoy!

Keith Olbermann has been suspended indefinitely from MSNBC for political donations he made to 3 Democratic candidates.  The MSNBC policy is that all donations must be approved ahead of time and it appears that Olbermann did not do that.  It also appears that MSNBC is really overreacting here.  Joe Scarborough has also donated to Republican candidates in the past and it’s not exactly like Keith is impartial or hiding his biases.

Statement from MSNBC reads:

I became aware of Keith’s political contributions late last night. Mindful of NBC News policy and standards, I have suspended him indefinitely without pay,” MSNBC president Phil Griffin said in a statement.

If it is the policy that all donations need to be approved ahead of time and if Olbermann failed to do that he violated the rules.  That doesn’t mean he should be suspended indefinitely however.  From the little we know about the policy at this point it really doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense because I don’t know how you would implement it across the board.  That said suspended indefinitely sure sounds like fired but only time will tell.

Why in the name of things reasonable would…

Okay so I’ve been meaning to write this post for a while now.  I’m a die hard fan of ‘Mad Men’ and have been since the Donald Draper’s “true identity” was revealed in Season One.  Over the show’s four award winning seasons, there has been a growing chorus of folks writing articles asking, “Why are there no black people on Mad Men?”  Please. Just. Stop.

Sometimes saying “I’m not a witch” doesn’t cut it. Sometimes you have to sing it in full on aut0-tune as if it were a power ballad. Check out the video from the people who brought you Antoine Dodson’s smash hit. Soon as her back up singers came in I passed out.
