A Brand New Season of “The Wire” if… |
Recently Attorney General Eric Holder requested a new season of “The Wire” from creator David Simon.
“Do another Season of The Wire. That’s actually at a minimum…if you don’t do a season, do a movie. We’ve done HBO movies, this is a series that deserves a movie.” – Eric Holder
All of us Wire fans laughed and cheered the silly request. It’d be AWESOME if they did another season of The Wire but it’s not actually going to happen. I mean Simon wouldn’t actually put together a a season because the GOVERNMENT told him–but Simon RESPONDED:
“The Attorney-General’s kind remarks are noted and appreciated,” he wrote. “I’ve spoken to Ed Burns and we are prepared to go to work on season six of The Wire if the Department of Justice is equally ready to reconsider and address its continuing prosecution of our misguided, destructive and dehumanising drug prohibition.”
Oh SNAP. Oh–Oh SNAP. Your move Holder. It’s fairly clear that the War on Drugs has failed. Why not reconsider the laws that have ruined communities and families and get a brand new season of THE WIRE. This seems like a no-brainer. Which means that none of it will happen. Whenever the right thing to do seems obvious we can be confident that it won’t be done.
