A Preview of CNN’s Black In America: Almighty Debt |
This Thursday at 9pm EST CNN will air yet another installment of its Black In America series. This one will focus on the out of control problem with debt in the black community. It chronicles a number of people who have their own specific problems with debt, whether it be a home in foreclosure, a student struggling to afford a higher education, and a middle-aged person who has been laid off as a result of the Great Recession.
What makes this special a bit different is the focus on the role of the Black Church in combatting the financial crisis by helping parishioners with financial planning. Pastor Soaries who is basically the star of the show is essentially giving folks credit counseling from the pulpit. It will be interesting to see how this special is received. Some of the information is old hat (wealth is generational) and some of it we have already covered generally in documentaries about the financial crisis overall.
