Government Shutdown: You Left Out The Part About Scrooge and The Gingrich Whole Stole Christmas

» 30 September 2010 » In 1 [HOME], 1 [HOME] Feature Story, THE POLITICAL » No Comments

John S. Wilson and I are having a back and forth on The Loop 21, regarding the effects of a GOP takeover in November.  Basically, he is arguing that the GOP will restrain themselves and not propose anything too crazy in order to prevent damage to their prospects in 2012.

Unfortunately, I have no such hope or faith in the GOP.  And as Rachel Maddow has chronicled extensively on her show the most extreme elements of the GOP control things now and in my view they can not be trusted to govern.

New Birth: Either Fire Bishop Long Or Force Him To Resign

» 29 September 2010 » In 1 [HOME], 1 [HOME] Feature Story, NATIONAL » 1 Comment

It was one thing for Bishop Eddie Long to not step down after four separate lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct were filed last week and after some rather interesting pictures were leaked on the internets but now after an emotional interview with one of Bishop Eddie Long’s accusers, Jamal Parris aired on Fox News in Atlanta yesterday, Bishop Long needs to either step down or be forced out.  Especially since Parris is claiming that he and Bishop regularly engaged in sexual acts in the church.

Did Republicans Peak Too Early?

» 29 September 2010 » In 1 [HOME], 1 [HOME] Feature Story, THE POLITICAL » No Comments

My fellow blogger Bob Cesca asked the question this morning about whether the Republicans who have been all the rage for the past year, peaked too early.  Is it possible that all the hyped up outrage at the Beck Tea Party rallies is not in fact going to translate into an overwhelmning number of electoral victories for the GOP come November?  I’m not sure I know the answer to that but if Democrats are supposed to be apathetic and fed up with President Obama, this was not evident at his rally yesterday at the University of Wisconsin.  26,000 people showed up to hear the president speak and they were (to steal a line from the 2008 campaign) fired up and ready to go!

Anyone Who Isn’t Against A GOP Takeover In November Needs To Read A History Book

» 28 September 2010 » In 1 [HOME], 1 [HOME] Feature Story, THE POLITICAL » No Comments

I came across an article on The Loop 21 today with the title, “Four reasons a GOP takeover isn’t such a bad thing” (hereinafter “Four reasons”) and I felt strongly enough about it to write this rebuttal.

It is quite possible to forget just how bad the Republican Revolution of the 1990s was for the country. I remember it like it was yesterday. “Four reasons” underestimates how poorly Congress was run under Newt Gingrich and fails to even acknowledge the alarming level of extremism present in the 2010 version of the Republican party that will no doubt have a huge influence over the decisions made if there is a Speaker of the House Boehner. Shiver.

I’ve made my own list of four things to keep in mind when considering whether the GOP taking back the House is a good or bad thing.

Waiting for “Superman” Villains: Teachers Unions and the Bad Teachers They Protect

» 28 September 2010 » In 1 [HOME], 1 [HOME] Feature Story » No Comments

I saw the movie Waiting for “Superman” over the weekend with 4 New York City school teachers (2 public and 2 charter).  The documentary was directed by Academy Award Winner David Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth).  By the end of the movie we were all crying and passing around the kleenex.  It was an extremely depressing film documenting the absolutely horrific conditions of the education system in the United States.

I wasn’t only sad for the five students profiled as they waited nervously to see if their names would be randomly selected to go to a quality 1st grade class, I WAS FURIOUS.

The movie makes it very clear who the villains are in the fight to finally change the education system in order to provide at least a decent education for our children.  The villains are the teachers unions and bad teachers (also known as “lemons”).

If GOP Wins House Rep. Issa Will Investigate ACORN

» 28 September 2010 » In 1 [HOME], 1 [HOME] Feature Story, THE POLITICAL » No Comments

Rep. Darrell Issa means business!  If the GOP takes back the House of Representatives the new chairman of the Congressional Oversight and Government Reform Committee will investigate only the important stuff, like ACORN (which no longer exists) and the post office! Scary stuff!  I’m really glad that Democrats decided not to investigate the Bush Administration for torture, lying us into a war, and wiretapping American citizens without a warrant.  It totally made the GOP re-think launching stupid investigations if they were to ever take back the House.

Seriously, am I the only one who can’t wait for the “birther” hearing?  Impeachment anyone?  Please VOTE on November 2!

Breaking News: Rahm Emanuel To Leave White House This Week

» 27 September 2010 » In 1 [HOME], 1 [HOME] Feature Story, THE POLITICAL » No Comments

It’s official (sort of)! The devil White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel both liberals and conservatives love to hate is leaving the White House.  The official announcement could be made as early as this Friday.  Rahm has his sights set on the Mayor’s office in Chicago and now that Jesse Jackson Jr. is having some “personal” issues, it is looking like Rahm has a good shot at winning.  Only time will tell…

I’m sure liberals will find someone else in the White House to hate now that Rahm is out of there.

This Week in Things We Knew already: Conservatives are White & Old.

I’ll admit. This post title is a bit misleading. Of course not all people who refer to themselves as “conservatives” are white and old. But according to the latest Gallup poll if you’re a conservative, you’re most likely white and old. Oh, and religious and male…and you suck.*

Virginia Governor Cancels Confederate History Month

» 27 September 2010 » In 1 [HOME], 1 [HOME] Feature Story, QUICK HITS, THE POLITICAL » No Comments

Governor Bob McDonnell has found it in his oh so compassionate heart to cancel the racist Confederate History Month in the state of Virginia which had been scheduled for next April.  Controversy over his decision to have Confederate History Month at all was swift because celebrating it set him apart from his predecessors and he managed to completely omit SLAVERY in his initial declaration.

John McCain on DADT: Get off my Army; Shakes fist at Gays

» 23 September 2010 » In YOUR 2 CENTS » No Comments

John McCain was never going to be President. Sorry folks out there bitching about Obama’s Socialist, Marxist, Commie Pinko, Reverse Racism-favoring policies. It was never in the cards. That said, if he somehow had pulled out the upset of all upsets, imagine if you would, his guy making practical, sane decisions in the matters of the US of A…..

I know, right? This guy, that as much he says….wait, as much as he never claimed that he was a “maverick”, is pretty in step with his Republican brethren. It’s so funny to think that people have scolded me for playing the “McCain is an old fossil” card, yet he drops gems like these out there for us all to see. I’ll break it down like this:

1. No one uses the term ‘flip flopper’ enough on this guy. You know, the old ‘I was for it before I was against it’ deal? That still applies, right? I’m pretty sure McCain was for the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell if the generals thought it was the right thing to do.

2. Repeating your disproved point over and over isn’t the best way to prove it. Especially after you heard from a military member that was dismissed over the very same thing you claimed ‘wasn’t policy’ this past March. It may seem like it works with other people in the party, but that’s because those people have a whole news organisation backing them, repeating their points days and days, hours and hours at a time. The party really didn’t like you much to begin with, and now, they really don’t have your back on anything. You shouldn’t be trying so hard to impress them.

3. Isn’t your daughter all ‘the gay thing is so, like, old fashioned for Republicans to be worrying about“? Nothing makes you seem more old and out of touch when your kid is in the public eye, saying the exact opposite of what you’re saying. That makes you sound like Archie Bunker. Even if she doesn’t like me anymore, I have agree with her. If people on the right would stop pandering to the very small few that can’t sleep at night because a guy or girl in Iraq is gay and fighting a war that they wouldn’t even think about joining up to fight, they could have more people willing to listen to their side. Not many, but some.

Whatever. Ultimately, McCain is a footnote now. He’ll forever be the guy that lost to the first black President and the guy that was willing throw out any credibility he had to scrape out a few more votes from people that wouldn’t spit on him to put him out if he was on fire. Oh, and the guy that brought us all Sarah Palin. What would we have done with you doing that to…I mean, for us?

On the bright side, if the second Simpsons movie comes out, we know who’s a lock for Grandpa Simpson?

1994′s Contract With America: 2…er…I mean A NEW AWESOME THING!

So you’re at home. Thinking you’re not feeling the whole liberal “agenda” thing. You wanted hope but you don’t feel hope-y at all. You’re thinking perhaps you should just ignore this upcoming mid-term election. You voted for the Negro and so what? Barack Obama has done nothing as President.

Plantation Owner Mascot? Not the greatest of ideas.

» 20 September 2010 » In 1 [HOME], 1 [HOME] Feature Story, NATIONAL » 5 Comments

After reading up on Haley Barbour‘s interesting memory of his time at the University of Mississippi it just so happened that I ran across this lovely article.

OXFORD, Miss. — When Levi West walks across campus on game day, admirers sprint to take his photograph. Women coo. Men slap him high-fives. The jovial, 25-year-old senior at the University of Mississippi is not a celebrity in his own right, though.

He owes his star power to his get-up — a knockoff of the university’s longtime mascot, a caricature of an antebellum Southern plantation owner.
