Alvin Greene: Undercover Brother?

» 16 June 2010 » In 1 [HOME], THE POLITICAL » 10 Comments

I try to stay on top of politics. I really do. But the phenomenon of Alvin Greene had escaped me. If you had asked me about him before today, I would have had nothing for you. But now that he’s won, all eyes are on him. (Not unlike Tupac.) Greene seems to have appeared out of nowhere, and people in his own party are very concerned about how this guy, who didn’t seem to have his collective sh*t together, may have been planted by the local Republican party to wreck the Dems chances to win in November. Now, I really don’t go for conspiracy theories, but after witnessing Mr. Greene in action, he has single-handedly convinced me that there might be something to this controversy. Behold, the possible new senator of South Carolina as he rocks the mic with “Evil Liberal” Keith Olbermann:

WOW!!! (In Flavor Flav voice)…….No words. Just let that sink in…….I’ll wait……..You okay? Yeah. I went from “You’re sounding real 007 right now, James Clyburn” to “Oh snap!! How did the GOP pull this off?!?!?” South Carolina has open primaries, meaning that anyone can vote in the Democratic primary. Even Republicans. So let’s sum up the parts of this: the GOP is pretty desperate to get any kind of foothold on the road back to power and everything they have tried hasn’t worked so well. The GOP really needs to gain seats in November. Could it be possible for some bright penny in the GOP ranks (and don’t let the Tea Party fool you into thinking that there aren’t still smart Republicans) to come up with this insane, Cobra-type plan while the world is focusing on whoever the Tea Party/Sarah Palin is trumping up as the future of the known universe?

Hold on. I think X-Files is back on……

Not Another Lame Remake: a review of “The Karate Kid”

» 16 June 2010 » In 1 [HOME], 2 [HOME-MINI] - 4, Featured [Music & Media], MUSIC & MEDIA, REVIEWS » 1 Comment

This review will feature spoilers…because I care nothing about your movie-going experience. ~ m.d.s.

Forget that it’s a remake. Forget about the fact that Jaden Smith, heir to the Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith throne, gets top-billing over the “world’s biggest movie star” Jackie Chan. Forget about the fact it’s called “The Karate Kid” but is set in China (not Japan, where Karate was developed) and there is no karate, but rather kung-fu. Forget, forget, forget. Why?

Because this movie is so fucking dope.

Dr. Rand Paul Is Not A Real Doctor?

» 15 June 2010 » In 1 [HOME], 2 - Feat [The Political]-2, 2 [HOME-MINI] - 2, Politics-Featured, THE POLITICAL » 4 Comments

So Dr. Rand Paul might not really be a board certified doctor!?  America’s favorite Libertarian looks like he may have made up his own board of ophthalmology and then installed his wife as Vice President of said board. Meaning? He might not actually be an AMA certified physician. (HA!)

How libertarian of him!  Why go to fancy liberal schools and then apply for the required certification when you can just create it out of thin air like Sarah Palin’s new boobs!  Like I’ve said before, Rand Paul is my new favorite.  He is so not ready for primetime which only benefits those of us who find entertainment from political malpractice in the national spotlight.  So thank you Rand Paul for being you and keep it up!  Let’s hope his Democratic opponent Jack Conway will reap the benefits of your ineptitude.

Via The Lexington Herald-Leader:

Patients have come to expect that a doctor who holds himself out as a “board certified” specialist, as Paul does, meets rigorous standards created by an independent body?

And, if the American Board of Medical Specialties, the American Medical Association, the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure and the American Academy of Ophthalmologists don’t recognize Paul’s National Board of Ophthalmology, exactly what are the standards required for certification by that board?

Read the rest over at FireDogLake.

A Lens into the Soul of Haiti: Photos by Wyatt Gallery

» 11 June 2010 » In 1 [HOME], 1 [HOME] Feature Story, Featured [Music & Media], INTERNATIONAL, MUSIC & MEDIA » 3 Comments

Few photographers these days can resist the urge to shock and scandalize us with the grit and bloodiness of the wider world’s state of constant jeopardy. Where do you look if you want to pull your eyes away from that or from your television, with its own well of blood and surreal interstitials in the form of Real-Housewives-of-God-Knows-Why-We-Care? If a mine collapses in Virginia, or a well explodes in the Gulf, or a mountain slides down onto a village, we see it in as much gratifyingly hideous detail as possible. We gaze at photos of grieving widows and starving or displaced children. We press our ears to our televisions to listen for sounds of survivors. Still, I wonder if we recognize ourselves in these people caught in tragic dust, grime, and blood-covered images.

[Black In Cairo] Afrocentrism in Relation to Egypt Pt. 1

» 11 June 2010 » In 1 [HOME], 1 [HOME] Feature Story, 2 [Lifestyle] Featured Story, INTERNATIONAL, LIFESTYLE » 14 Comments

In attempt to bring different perspectives from different areas, TWiB! will be publishing special columns such as this one. Please enjoy our first column “Black in Cairo”  - editor

Afrocentrism is inherently contradictory since it embraces the two countries that self-identify the LEAST with Africa: Ethiopia and Egypt- A.H.

Having come to Cairo with a knowledge of the poor treatment of the black Sudanese in Egypt and the recent comments of  Egyptian newspaper editor Abdel-Bari Atwan who, on Obama’s election, said, “Obama would be referred to as an ‘abd‘ [slave] in some parts of the Arab world”, I was not expecting to be “welcomed back” to the “Mother Land.” Although, Egypt is in Africa, the country has gone through many invasions and extensive measures to carve an Egyptian national identity that paints the people as not African or even Arabs, but solely “Egyptian.”  Thus, the question remains, does it make sense to ground Afrocentrism in a culture that openly rejects all things black?

Did Senator Landrieu really just say she wants to end the moratorium on deepwater drilling when we are in the middle of the biggest oil disaster in the history of America?!  It’s not possible right? That she  just said that mess on my teevee with a straight face and no apparent sense of irony?!

Get off my teevee with this nonsense Senator.

“Captain Planet Is Pissed!”

My brother yelled that at me last night and I laughed. But then I thought, hot damn, he’s right. He meant it in relation to the utterly preposterous oil spill currently swirling in the Gulf of Mexico. BP is the asshat of the century; the current scourge of the environment. Not only did British “the British are coming” Petroleum utterly fail in all things related to the safe extraction of oil under U.S. waters, it utterly failed in the containment and stoppage of the irreversible “accident” because they were “unprepared”. Here’s my problem:

[POLI] Rand Paul Still Doesn’t Get It

» 10 June 2010 » In 1 [HOME], 2 - Feat [The Political]-1, 2 [HOME-MINI] - 2, THE POLITICAL » No Comments

One day I hope that we get to the point in politics where our elected (Or aspiring to be elected) officials can hold a press conference and just admit when they did or said something ridiculous.  You know, come to the mic saying “Yeah for a minute there I was suffering from Fecesmouthism: where I was spewing feces uncontrollably out of my mouth.  I’m here to say I’m sorry for that and that the doctor has given me some antibiotics and I’m going to make a full recovery.  Sorry for sounding like such an idiot.  Please forgive me.”

Letters to Friends: Meghan McCain

» 10 June 2010 » In 1 [HOME], 2 [HOME-MINI] - 1, Politics-Featured, THE POLITICAL » 1 Comment

Dear Meghan McCain,

How are you? Fine, I hope. First off, I want you to know that I kind of like you–you’re plucky and free-spirited. When I see quotes from you, I don’t immediately start getting a headache upon reading it. Your stances are pretty progressive and in a party that seems to be yearning for the good ole’ days, when black people knew their place, women stayed at home and made babies, and gay people magically didn’t exist. You seem like you have a pretty good head on your shoulders despite who your dad is.

Slim Thug’s Opinion on Black Women

» 10 June 2010 » In YOUR 2 CENTS » 7 Comments

“Most single Black women feel like they don’t want to settle for less. Their standards are too high right now. They have to understand that successful Black men are kind of extinct.”

“My girl is Black and White. I guess the half White in her is where she still cooks and do all the shit that I say, so we make it. She just takes care of me and I like that. She don’t be begging and I don’t gotta buy her all this crazy ass shit. And she’s a smart girl too.”

“White women treat they man like a king and Black women feel like they ain’t gotta do that shit. Black women need to stand by their man more. Don’t always put the pressure of if I’m fucking with you, you gotta buy me this and that. Black men are the ones that motherfuckers need [but] I think a lot of them need to step it up too.” (Source)

In Defense of Slim Thug

» 10 June 2010 » In YOUR 2 CENTS » 3 Comments

Times must be hard when a rapper, that’s  only known as the guy who dated the 3rd most famous member of Destiny’s Child (Letoya Luckett), has to come out and voice his opinion against black women and offer dating/relationship advice.  I know nothing about this thug called Slim, a name which is quite inappropriate unless he’s been on a Slim Fast diet. In any event, after researching  Slim Thug, which took all of 3 minutes, I do have to come out in his defense.

Like most rappers, Slim Thug was born in the early 80′s, 1980 to be precise. It’s best to assume the house or apartment Slim Thug was raised in was built anywhere from the 50′s to the 60′s, possibly even earlier than that. A commonality that was shared in housing back then was lead paint. As most people know, lead paint poisoning can be linked to learning disabilities or social retardation. (Which mainly lead to the short bus population.) Most people became afflicted with lead paint poisoning may have participated in activities like licking window sills, and eating paint chips when they were children.

Imagine the vast amounts of window sills and lead paint chips Slim Thug could have possibly eaten as a child–to turn him into the fucking retarded adult he is today. Apparently, his mother just didn’t take notice and allowed it to develop further.  I’m going to assume, they didn’t have attorneys on tv advertising their lead paint lawsuit victories.  Actually, his mother could have prevented any of this from happening if she would have swallowed the night he was procreated.

Since none of  above happened, we’re now left with a rapper who is proud that his girlfriend went to Columbia University and that the white half of her does things for him. I’m sure it’s the white half of her also, that hasn’t admitted to her parents who her loser boyfriend is.

In any event, Slim Thug’s opinion on the state of black women, is just as irrelevant as everyone else’s. I’m just going to assume the negro is a by-product of window sill licking & lead paint poisoning because that’s the only excuse I can come up with in regards to why he’s a fucking retard.
