Dude at LOLPAC Defends Slavery as ‘Providing Food and Shelter’ to Black People [update]
Jesus blow up the wheel.
This afternoon, at a CPAC panel on minority outreach, a white guy stood up and asked why black people are keeping the white man down, why Republicans refuse to endorse segregation, and also managed to defend slavery as a supersweet entitlement for black people.
And that was just one guy!
The exchange occurred after an audience member from North Carolina, 30-year-old Scott Terry, asked whether Republicans could endorse races remaining separate but equal. After the presenter, K. Carl Smith of Frederick Douglass Republicans, answered by referencing a letter by Frederick Douglass forgiving his former master, the audience member said “For what? For feeding him and housing him?”
After the exchange, Terry muttered under his breath, “why can’t we just have segregation?” noting the Constitution’s protections for freedom of association.
When questioned by Think Progress, Terry claimed he’d be fine with a society where black people are permanently subservient to white people. He also claimed that black people should be allowed to vote in Africa… because Africa is totally a country and all black people here should be able to vote there. It’s perfectly logical.
Be sure to watch the video. The reaction of the white woman in the front should be the new pictionary definition for “brain explosion.” I don’t know if she’s a Republican, but after that panel, she might have run screaming into the night straight into the arms of the Democratic Party.
White supremacy: Ain’t it grand?
UPDATE:TPM’s coverage of the incident will make your head pop right off of your neck. Apparently, the panel was entitled “Trump The Race Card: Are You Sick And Tired Of Being Called A Racist When You Know You’re Not One?” — which, you know — LOL. Essentially, Scott Terry and his bro Matthew Heimbach are bona fide white nationalists, so that’s fun. Also, a bunch of assholes shouted down a black woman named Kim Brown who works for a Russian broadcasting company (huh?!) and told her she wasn’t welcome at the panel. I don’t even understand what the fuck is going on at LOLPAC, but it sounds like a real
