Zandar’s Morning Read: The Bullet We Dodged
Apparently the only thing dumber than Romney/Ryan voters in 2012 who believed that Romney/Ryan wouldn’t touch Medicare are “moderate House Republicans”, who are SHOCKED and AMAZED that Captain Austerity (who’s still in the House and still causing untold damage, unlike Romney) is now going back on his pledge not to touch Medicare benefits for those 55 and older. Turns out the youngest of the Baby Boomers were always in the crosshairs and vulnerable House Republicans now have to face voting for a Ryan Austerity Budget that will never pass…and get them torn to shreds in 2014 anyway.
House Republican centrists are furious that GOP leaders are considering abandoning their pledge not to change Medicare retirement benefits for people 55 years and older.
According to several sources, a handful of centrist GOP lawmakers attending a recent Tuesday Group luncheon erupted when Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) broke the news.
After agreeing to write a budget resolution that will balance the budget over the next decade, Ryan conceded that he might have to adjust the age to as high as 59.
“Paul Ryan was pretty clear that that could happen. You could have to take it up to a higher number like 56, 57, 59 … it could be higher than 55, but he also said, ‘We don’t have any numbers yet,’ ” said a Republican lawmaker who attended the meeting.
Really? And you’re surprised by this? Suckers. This was always the plan, guys. In fact, the plan is dismantle Medicare totally for all Americans. You thought you were going to get away with that unscathed by the voting public? I don’t think so.
Here’s the best part: when you vote for the Ryan Super Austerity Budget 3.0 Now With Medicare Benefit Cuts, and you will, you’ll go down with the rest of the Tea Party ship exactly like you deserve to. You’ll be replaced by Democrats. It’s almost like you’re trying to give away the store for 2014, while pundits predict that there’s little chance of the Dems getting the House back, they do caution that a wave election with motivated (if not pissed off) voters will get that job done.
Welcome to pissed off voters, boys. Paul Ryan, the gift that keeps on giving.
